Board of Directors

Ian A. Smith- Executive Director / Founder

Hi, my name is Ian Angelo Smith. I am a 2007 graduate of Purdue University, Department of Agriculture in Entomology. Currently, I am working on a MS degree at Kansas State University, College of Agriculture in Entomology. I created this foundation with intentions of helping minorities obtain higher education. There is a cycle that keeps our young people quelled up inside. A cycle that produces non-educated minorities, who feels education is not for them. As a result, many young minorities turn to the streets. My goal is to change this vicious cycle, by instilling in young people the importance of education. Remember, developing begins with our youth because they are the future.

Paul E. Carey- Chairman of Board

I am a graduate from Purdue University and a current graduate student at Indiana University pursuing a Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry. I am a strong believer that the future dwells within our youth; through them the pathway to our future success is held. Nurturing and providing the fundamentals for their growth should be our first priority; due to this argument I believe foundations should make sure focus is towards building strong communities as well as being visual leaders for our community. I also believe we should not diverge from this idea of community with respect to education, making sure that we set the primary example and support source for our youth. My hope is that the Ian Smith Foundation will be able to play a key and pivotal role in this process.

Durell Dancy- Vice-Chair of Board

Hello, my name is Durell Dancy. I am a recent graduate of Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis. I earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and currently pursuing a degree in dentistry, specializing in endodontics. I have received so much from my community and people believing in me, that I felt it was my turn to give back. I have volunteered for community centers and churches to let kids know there’s somebody on their side. I see the impact that I had on children just by giving them a few hours out of my day, and I know that getting involved on a greater scale, will make a greater impact.

Thomas S. Reives- Treasurer

"After attending Indianapolis Arsenal Technical High School, I went on to graduate from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Spanish Language and Culture. I am now employed at Eli Lilly & Co, and I truly believe that our future resides in the youth. This is why I volunteer in the community and try to help those who may eventually follow in my footsteps. It is my wish that the Ian Smith Foundation will be a support block for someone who needs a little help reaching the top when it may seem impossible to do alone."
